Prompt word of the week: Dream.
Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and I was thinking about how his “I Have a Dream” speech is very popular, but I don’t think I’ve ever read one of his books. So I looked up a few of his titles, and these three stood out to me:
Stride Toward Freedom: The Montgomery Story (1958)
This book is a detailed account of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, a pivotal event in the Civil Rights Movement. It explores the boycott’s origins, strategies, and outcomes, as well as the philosophy of nonviolence that guided Dr. King’s leadership.
Strength to Love (1963)
A collection of his sermons emphasizing love, justice, and nonviolence.
Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community? (1967): An exploration of the challenges facing the Civil Rights Movement and thoughts on economic justice and poverty.
Have you read MLK, Jr? If so, what was your favorite work by him?
